Great substitutes for potatoes!

One cup of turnips has 36 calories while a cup of potatoes has 118. That means that turnips are well worth experimenting with. In soups, for example, use turnips instead of potatoes for a great savory taste as well as its fat burning ability.

You'll need...

Some turnips
Some vegetable oil
Seasoned salt

Simply cut the turnip into fries, brush with a bit of oil, salt, and bake at 350° to 375° for 20 minutes or so. Try using different spices until you find a combination you like.

Turnips in Orange Sauce

2 pounds cubed turnips (cooked - boil them)
½ tsp salt
½ cup orange juice
2 Tbsp packed brown sugar (live a little)
¼ tsp ginger
1 Tbsp melted margarine
1 large orange, peeled & segmented

Drain and mash the turnips. Gradually beat the remaining ingredients except for the orange segments. Put this mixture in a baking dish (use Pam or something) and bake at 350° for 5 to 7 minutes. Serve the orange segments as a side dish.
